CVS ExtraBucks Rewards
How ExtraBucks Work
ExtraCare members can earn 2% back in ExtraBucks Rewards on qualifying CVS purchases. CVS also runs separate promotions where buying certain products or reaching a qualifying purchase amount earns additional ExtraBucks.
Your available rewards and coupons can be found in your CVS account or app. Digital offers can be sent to your ExtraCare card before shopping, and available ExtraBucks can be applied to eligible future purchases.
See CVS ExtraCare RewardsCan You Combine ExtraBucks With Coupons?
Yes, CVS allows many coupon combinations when the individual offers permit it. A manufacturer coupon and a CVS coupon can generally be used on the same qualifying item, and ExtraBucks can be applied to most eligible purchases after other discounts.
This is why a CVS deal can sometimes have several layers: a sale price, manufacturer coupon, CVS coupon, and ExtraBucks earned for a future purchase.
When Do ExtraBucks Expire?
Do not assume every ExtraBucks reward has the same expiration period. CVS says expiration dates can vary, so check the date shown on each reward in your account or app and use it before it expires.
Walgreens Cash
How Walgreens Cash Works
myWalgreens members earn Walgreens Cash on qualifying purchases, including 1% storewide and 5% on Walgreens-branded products. Walgreens also regularly offers additional rewards for buying specific products or meeting promotional spending requirements.
For extra Walgreens Cash promotions, check the Walgreens app, coupons, and current offers. Some digital rewards offers need to be clipped to your myWalgreens account before you shop.
See myWalgreens RewardsCan You Combine Walgreens Cash With Coupons?
Walgreens Cash can generally be used along with Walgreens discounts, manufacturer coupons, and other promotions unless a specific offer says otherwise.
There is one detail worth remembering when you are trying to earn a spending-threshold reward: qualifying amounts are calculated after discounts, store credit, redemption dollars, and manufacturer coupons where the promotion specifies that rule. A cart that started at $25 may no longer count as a $25 qualifying purchase after your discounts are applied.
When Does Walgreens Cash Expire?
Regular Walgreens Cash currently expires 12 months after it is earned. Walgreens also says an account can lose accumulated rewards after six consecutive calendar months without using Walgreens Cash in a transaction, so it is worth checking your balance rather than letting rewards sit indefinitely.
Target Circle Rewards
How Target Circle Works Now
Target Circle is a little different because regular Target Circle Deals and Target Circle Rewards are not the same thing. Many Circle Deals now apply automatically when Target recognizes you as a Circle member at checkout.
Target Circle Bonuses are different. These are personalized offers that can give you extra savings or Target Circle Rewards after you complete specific requirements, such as making qualifying purchases. Bonuses that require activation must be activated before you complete them.
See Target CircleWhere Do You Find Target Circle Bonuses?
Check the Target Circle section on Target.com or in the Target app. Your available Bonuses show their individual requirements, dates, and reward amounts.
If a Bonus says something like spend a certain amount and earn a Target Circle Reward, read the qualifying-purchase rules before filling your cart. Not every item or charge necessarily counts toward the required total.
Can Target Circle Work With Coupons?
Target allows Circle Deals to work with other eligible discounts under its coupon rules. In general, one manufacturer coupon can also be combined with other discounts on an eligible item unless the offer states otherwise.
When Do Target Circle Rewards Expire?
Target Circle Rewards remain available while you actively participate in the program. They can expire if you go one year without earning or redeeming any Target Circle Rewards, and your current expiration information is shown in your Circle account or the Wallet section of the Target app.
Walmart Cash
How Walmart Cash Works
One common way to earn Walmart Cash is through Manufacturer Offers. Find an eligible product in the Walmart app or on Walmart.com, save the Walmart Cash offer to your account, and then buy the qualifying item.
For online orders, Walmart Cash is added after the eligible order is fulfilled. In stores, you can find offers by scanning products in the Walmart app and link your account to the transaction at checkout.
See How Walmart Cash WorksDo You Have to Activate Walmart Cash Offers?
For Manufacturer Offers, yes. Save the offer before purchasing the eligible product. If you buy an item without properly claiming the offer first, you may not receive Walmart Cash.
Walmart also provides a receipt-scanning option in some situations when an offer was already claimed but the in-store purchase was not linked through Walmart Pay or Scan & Go.
Can You Combine Walmart Cash With Coupons?
This is where Walmart differs from some other programs. Walmart says you cannot use a paper manufacturer coupon and receive Walmart Cash from a Manufacturer Offer on the same item. If both are present, the paper coupon is honored and the Walmart Cash Manufacturer Offer is not earned for that item.
When Does Walmart Cash Expire?
The Walmart Cash balance itself currently does not expire as long as your Walmart account remains in good standing. Individual Manufacturer Offers do have expiration dates, so the qualifying product needs to be purchased before the offer expires.
The Biggest Differences to Remember
- CVS: ExtraBucks can come from 2% back on qualifying purchases or specific ExtraBucks promotions.
- Walgreens: Walgreens Cash includes regular earning rates plus promotional rewards that may require clipping an offer or meeting a purchase requirement.
- Target: many Circle Deals apply automatically, but personalized Circle Bonuses may need activation to earn Target Circle Rewards.
- Walmart: Manufacturer Offers generally need to be saved before buying the qualifying product to earn Walmart Cash.
The biggest mistake is assuming that because you have joined a loyalty program, every bonus will happen automatically. Always check the offer before shopping.
Do Not Spend Extra Just to Earn a Reward
Store rewards work best when they reduce the price of things you were already planning to buy. They work much less well when the reward becomes the reason for the purchase.
If an offer says “Spend $30, Get $10,” and your planned shopping list is only $18, adding $12 of unnecessary products does not magically save you $10. You spent an extra $12 to receive store credit you still have to use later.
-
1
Start With Your Shopping List
Look for rewards on products you already need instead of building the purchase around the bonus.
-
2
Activate the Offer First
Target Circle Bonuses, Walmart Manufacturer Offers, and some Walgreens promotions require action before the purchase.
-
3
Check the Qualifying Total
Coupons and discounts can change whether a transaction still meets a required spending threshold.
-
4
Know When the Reward Expires
A $10 reward is only worth $10 if you actually remember to use it.
-
5
Think of Rewards as Future Savings
You are still paying today's checkout total. The reward becomes savings when you use it later on something you genuinely need.
Which Store Rewards Program Is Best?
There is no single winner. CVS can be particularly useful when ExtraBucks promotions and coupons line up on the same purchase. Walgreens combines ongoing earning with frequent promotional Walgreens Cash offers. Target Circle is simple for automatic deals but rewards shoppers who pay attention to personalized Bonuses. Walmart Cash is straightforward when Manufacturer Offers appear on products you were already planning to buy.
The best program is usually the one attached to the store you already shop at. Learn how its rewards work, activate the offers that match your list, and let the bonus reduce future spending instead of encouraging another unnecessary trip.
